The recording and the performance
Produced, superbly engineered, edited, and mastered by Matt Carr, beautifully annotated by David Brin, all under the care of Executive Producer Carol Rosenberger, the lovingly curated APPROACHING AUTUMN bridges the late 19th century lyrical, folk-inspired music for cello of the Norwegian master Edvard Grieg into the 20th century work of the indispensable Hungarian modernist Zoltán Kodály, to then move into Approaching Autumn, the rhapsodically impassioned, single-movement musical creation of the American composer Mark Abel.
The three compositions are delivered with solid technique, unflappable confidence and exquisite musicality by the young Korean-American cellist Jonah Kim, kept company by the sterling collaborative pianist Robert Koenig.
