TELEMANN REVISITED

THE MUSIC

During the 1960s, the label Musical Heritage Society produced many releases of baroque music, made at a time when style-appropriate performance practice was redefining the way music of earlier periods was played, including the instruments with which it was performed. Among them the first complete recording of Georg Philipp Telemann’s three cycles of “Tafelmusik” was made by group of musicians from the Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra.

THE PERFORMANCE

Newly remastered in a high-definition download from archival sources, this recording is reissued co-produced by Musical Concepts.

Harpsichordist, Hilde Langfort and conductor, Dietfried Bernet join leading members of the Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra in various combinations, delivering superbly elegant performances of a number of quartets, concertos, trios, sonatas, and overtures that delight and remind us of the importance of Telemann’s compositions in the context of the eighteenth century.

THE TAKEAWAY

Recommended as a valuable addition to the library of aficionados of baroque music.
