The FOUR WAY STRING QUARTET performed in the intimate space of All Saints Episcopal Church at 6301 Parkman Place, in Pleasant Ridge, Cincinnati a program of works by Beethoven, Bartok, and contemporary composers in an informal way, each of its four members announcing the selections to the audience at differeent times.

Violinists Shannon Lock and Maggie Niekamp, both having recently joined long term quartet members violist Kevin Boden, and cellist Nat Chaitkin, performed, as if they had been playing with Boden and Chaitkin all their lives, delivering a fine ensemble sound characterized by flawless attacks and a unified musical style.

But above all, the Four Way’s unpretentious, comfortably casual yet serious-minded approach to their music-making, consonant with the youthfulness of its members, created a satisfyingly welcoming ambience for the audience at their concert, the first of what we hope will be one of many to come.

All proceeds from donations went to support the quartet’s free education program. The quartet will perform again next week in a pair of Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween ClassIcs on Tuesday, October 25, and Thursday October 27 at 6:30 PM at The Transept on 1205 Elm Street Cincinnati, OH, 45202.
