In Cincinnati, great Classical music goes on year-round, and this summer is highlighted by the Ascent International Chamber Music Festival.

Featuring five concerts, with internationally acclaimed visiting guest artists, and CCM Faculty artists, led by led by Sarah Kim and Alan Rafferty, in addition to master classes given by several of the festival’s participating artists, the festival will also include two showcase concerts with young rising artists.

The Ascent International Chamber Music Festival continues with Ode to Friendship, a program that features Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio, Gabriel Fauré ’s C Minor Piano Quartet, and the Cincinnati premiere of Jessie Montgomery’s Duo for Violin and Cello, with participating artists Judith Ingolfsson, violin; Yoo Jin Jang, violin; Sarah Kim, cello; Melissa Kraut, cello; Scott Lee, viola; Alan Rafferty, cello; and Sandra Rivers, piano.
July 5th at 7:30 pm INSPIRED RECOLLECTIONS

Rebecca Barnes, viola; Michael Chertock, piano; Judith Ingolfsson, violin; Grigory Kalinovsky, violin; Sarah Kim, cello; Melissa Kraut, cello; Ming Li Liu, piano; Stefani Matsuo, violin; Alan Rafferty, cello; and Vladimir Stoupel, piano, gather to play in the program Inspired Recollections, the music of David Popper’s Requiem for Three Cellos, Dimitri Shostakovich’s 2nd Piano Trio, and Antonin Dvořák’s Piano Quintet.

Cho-Liang Lin returns to Cincinnati for this performance, joined by Elias Fredericks, Sarah Kim, Scott Lee, Jingting Liu, Philip Marten, Stefani Matsuo, Rictor Noren, Alan Rafferty, Sandra Rivers, and Marina Alba Lopez Sanchez, to play the Concerto for Four Violins in D Major of Georg Philipp Telemann, Three Pieces of Dmitri Shostakovich, the Suite for Two Violins and Piano of Moritz Moszkowski, and Johannes Brahms’ Sextet No. 1 in B-Flat Major, Op. 18.
July 12th at 7:30 pm Miró Quartet

The Miró Quartet returns to Cincinnati to play Beethoven’s String Quartet Op18, No. 2, the Ohio premiere of “Home” by Kevin Puts, a work commissioned by the Miró Quartet. After intermission, the Miró Quartet will be joined by Masumi Per Rostad, and Alan Rafferty, to bring to a close the Ascent International Chamber Music Festival with a performance of Johannes Brahms String Sextet No. 2 in G major.
All concerts take place in the College Conservatory of Music on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.
